It’s been a busy couple of weeks with work, family, school & community issues and my commitment to Green politics. We had our most recent East Devon Green Party meeting in Exmouth on Saturday 6th March and welcomed some new faces (and dedicated members like Miriam & Kerry above). We’ve planned an Ottery St Mary street stall for Saturday 27th March (in the town centre – possibly near Boots). This will be followed by a public/open meeting at 7.30pm on Wednesday 31st March at The Institute in Ottery. We have also planned a fundraising curry night for Saturday 10th April – click here for more info.
I attended our local village/community-run shop (to be) open evening in Stockland on Friday 13th March and then Geoff, Mike, Sharon H and I met up at Sharon’s lovely home in Sidmouth last Saturday to plan the election campaign. This is me below standing by the river in The Byes in Sidmouth on the way to Sharon’s house. My eight year old daughter Natasha is becoming a great campaign photographer (thanks Tash)! The following day – Sunday was a perfect Mother’s Day – we went for a picnic and lovely walk in Otterton & Budleigh Salterton.
This week seems to have flown by but I managed to meet up with our Local Party Contact Diana in Honiton and she has very helpfully taken over all the East Devon Green Party membership duties so I can focus on challenging current Tory MP Hugo Swire in the General Election. I then managed to set up a Facebook group for the East Devon Greens and we already have 16 members! I’ve also set up a new twitter account just for myself @sharonpavey. I have nearly 2000 followers on my business twitter account @tishtashtoys but felt I needed an account separate from that.
Thursday was a great day as Facebooked Green Party leader Caroline Lucas about our new East Devon Greens Facebook page and amazingly (for a busy lady) I got a reply saying “This looks great! Would you like to get involved in my campaign in Brighton at all? You could do some telephone canvassing, which would be a great help!” I’ve contacted the Brighton office to see what I can do – and if you are dedicated to getting our first Green MP elected, you can contact them too on email@example.com
Really enjoyed watching Caroline on BBC Question Time on Thursday evening even if David Starkey hogged the limelight. Then today I was up bright and early to set up the school PTFA market I’ve been organising. We’re raising funds for the new school stage and the CLIC Sargent (cancer care for children) charity. The market was very busy and we all had a great time. Lots of hard work but worth it.
Click here to join our Facebook group & if you are interested in joining our East Devon Green Party, please contact me. This is Michele and Sharon (Howe) at the last EDGP meeting – Michele wanted to record for posterity her using the tea-bag twice!! Way to go Michele (!). We’re a tight lot in East Devon you know, but very welcoming and don’t take ourselves too seriously (all of the time)! Come along to a meeting and we can (at the very least) promise a nice cuppa & biccy.
